On the 2nd of March, Harry Hancox from Stratford TKD travelled to Brighton for his second Taekwondo tournament of the year.
This time competing in the Impact Open Championships 2019.
Harry, aged 6, was in the 120cms ‘tots’ category yellow - green belts. This group was merged with the older ‘Pee Wee’ 130cms category, also yellow to green belts, bringing the total number competing together to 14.
First event of the day was patterns, Harry performing a much practiced Dan Gun. He won his first two matches, then on a 3/2 decision in the third round lost to the eventual winner. He held his nerve in the next match and won comfortably taking the Bronze medal.
With a short break it was back on the mats for sparring. Harry had a great first match and a comfortable win against a green tag. Then came a much older green belt, on the offensive from the off in really tough match but kept coming forward to win. This took Harry to the final, up against a fellow green tag a year older. With great skills demonstrated by both boys, Harry came through with another great victory to take Gold!
Harry trained really hard for these two medals and now can’t wait for the next tournament !
Well Done Harry !
