London Champs
On the Sunday 6th of October 2019, Harry Hancox now 7 years old travelled to Hatfield in London for the L.T.S.I English open championships. Harry was entered into the 5 year to 7 year old, up to green belt category. First up patterns, this was Harry’s first time performing Do San in competition and he kept his nerve, scoring 6’s from all three judges it was a waiting game. Just missing out in 4th against higher belts and those performing Won Hyo.
In a group ten strong, ranging from white belt up to blue tag it was time to get the sparring kit out. This time it was a continuous sparring competition, with 90 second rounds. Harry got off to a great start, winning comfortably. Second bout was again comfortable, then the semi-final. Very equally matched against a green belt initially but then Harry landed sequential 3 point head kicks, taking him in front. Now the final, giving away 10 Kg Harry demonstrated his kicking power, landing several sidekicks. The last one knocking his competitor off balance, this display gave Harry the L.T.S.I English Championship gold.
The third and final event of the day was special technique, having only competed once before in this discipline Harry was looking forward to the jumping front kick competition. After the early rounds where 5 others were eliminated it was down to the final 5. The pad was set at the new height, the first two competitors just missed. Harry just touched, so was now guaranteed a top three place. Harry being the smallest of the bunch was unable to reach the subsequent height, but took a bronze medal, his first medal in special tech so far.
